Antimicrobial Central Venous Catheter
Antimicrobial Central Venous Catheter
The chance of infection caused by ordinary central venous catheter is 4.5%, 80% of infection is caused by bacteria on the skin surface entering the blood through the catheter puncture site. The typical bacteria are the anti-thrombin staphylococcus, enterococcus and candida. The anti microbial central venous catheter is effective to inhibit bacteria growing, especially gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria and fungus. The form below indicates the anti-bacterial rate of typical bacteria.
Mechanism
The tubing is made from polyurethane which is mixed with silver-containing zirconium phosphate at nanometer level, when the catheter is placed into the body, Ag+ will be released to inhibit bacteria growing.
Benefits
1. The anti microbial central venous is effective to inhibit the growth of bacteria, it
can reduce 80% of related infection of ordinary central venous catheter, 10%-20% mortality which was caused by the infection and 75% of bacteremia.
2. The anti microbial central venous catheter can be planted into the body longer
than the ordinary catheter. It is non-toxic to human as the mechanism is different
from the antibiotics. Thus, it is not easy to cause drug resistance of bacterial.
Effect to the bacteria infection
The chance of infection caused by ordinary central venous catheter is 4.5%, 80% of infection is caused by bacteria on the skin surface entering the blood through the catheter puncture site. The typical bacteria are the anti-thrombin staphylococcus, enterococcus and candida.
